Description
This course introduces the fundamentals of environment control and how it can empower AAC users to control appliances and devices in their home. You will explore different types of environmental control, including smart speakers, infrared and radio wave systems and learn how these tools can enhance independence and daily living.
This course is designed for those with a basic understanding of Grid and includes both introductory and advanced lessons on setting up and using environment control.
Course Outline
Learn how to set up and use environmental control in 10 lessons, covering:
- Setting up smart speakers and voice assistants for AAC generated voice control.
- Using infrared to operate TVs, toys and household appliances.
- Exploring radio wave systems such as ELDAT EasyWave and Z-Wave for controlling sockets, doors and interactive rooms.
- Customising and optimising advanced setups for greater independence.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key types of environment control and their benefits for AAC users.
- Set up and customise smart speakers for AAC generated voice control.

- Understand and configure radio wave systems for home automation.
- Implement advanced environment control setups tailored to individual needs.
Completion requirements: You must complete all course content including all text, audio and all video content. This course is assessed via a multiple-choice, five questions knowledge check at the end of the course. The pass score is 80%. You can take the knowledge check multiple times.
